Lots of people feel uneasy as the year ends
When the calendar runs out, it is easy to shrink a whole year down to a few goals and tick them off one by one, counting every unticked box as a failure. But much more happened this year than a few plans: the hard things you got through, the people you looked after, the small habits that slowly got better. None of that shows up on a list. Feeling like you achieved nothing often just means you are looking at what is unfinished, not at how you kept living and trying all along.
In the Forest Cabin, switch the countdown off for a while
Outside the Forest Cabin window is a quiet stretch of trees, there is no year in review here, and nobody is waiting for your results. Write on a bedside note the one thing you regret most about this year, then three good things that really did happen, however small, like learning to cook a dish, making up with someone, or getting through a rough stretch, and fold it away so it stays only on your device. You don’t have to make up for the whole year in the weeks that are left. Pick one small thing and take it slowly. If this worry keeps you from sleeping for a long time, or you start to feel worthless, it may help to talk with someone you trust or a professional.
