Drifting apart from a friend

When you’ve slowly drifted apart from a friend who used to be close, and it leaves a gap

Maybe you scrolled back through your chat and realized your last real conversation was half a year ago, and since then it has only been likes. Maybe you moved to different cities after graduation, changed jobs, found new circles, and when you finally sat down together you didn’t know where to begin. Or maybe you saw a photo of them laughing with other people, felt glad for them, and also felt a small ache you couldn’t quite name. You type a message, then delete it, worried it will seem out of the blue, or that the reply will be politely distant. There was no fight and no falling out. Things just slowly stopped being the way they were.

It is normal to feel sad when a friend drifts away

People move, change jobs and enter new stages of life, and friendships often fade along the way. Many people go through this, and it doesn’t have to mean anyone did something wrong. But because there is no clear ending, this kind of loss rarely gets any comfort, and you are left to process it quietly on your own. Missing them, feeling let down or a bit lonely all show how much that friendship really meant to you.

In the Morning Room, set that friendship down gently for a while

A little morning light comes through the Morning Room curtains, it is quiet here, and you don’t have to decide right now whether to reach out. Write on a bedside note one small memory with this friend that you will never forget, then one thing you have always wanted to tell them, and fold it away so it stays only on your device. If you feel like reaching out, you could send a short hello that doesn’t need an answer right away. If you aren’t ready, it is fine to let the missing stay with you for now. If this loneliness lasts a long time and you feel there is no one around you can talk to, it may help to talk with someone you trust or a professional.

No account, no name, and you can leave whenever you like.
