Feeling betrayed

When someone you trusted betrays you, the hurt and anger make sense

Maybe a secret you told only one person came back to you from someone else. Maybe a person who promised to have your back walked away when it mattered most. Or maybe you found out that a partner, a friend or someone you worked with had been lying to you all along. In that moment the ground seems to drop away. Part of you can’t believe it, and part of you keeps going back over the good times, wondering how much of it was ever real.

Betrayal hurts because you truly trusted

Betrayal cuts deep because it comes from someone you let your guard down for. Anger, hurt, shame, and wondering whether you were foolish to trust can all keep coming back, and that is normal. Trusting someone was not your mistake. The mistake was their choice to break that trust. You don’t have to decide right now whether to forgive or walk away, and you don’t have to pretend you are fine.

In the Field Room, bring yourself back somewhere safe

Outside the Field Room window is a wide, quiet field, and the wind moves through the grain in wave after wave, and no one here will take anything from you. Write on a bedside note the moment that hurts most, then one thing you most want to say to yourself right now, and fold it away so it stays only on your device. Broken trust takes time to mend, and it is enough to look after yourself first. If this keeps you from sleeping or eating for a long time, or makes it hard to trust anyone at all, it may help to talk with someone you trust or a professional.

No account, no name, and you can leave whenever you like.
