Guilt means you care
You feel guilty because you care about that person, and about the kind of person you want to be. That weight doesn’t make you a bad person. It is more like a small warning light: you have seen how you affected someone else. Once you have seen it, you can slowly make amends where you can, and where you can’t, you don’t have to pay it off by staying miserable.
At the station, set the stone down for a while
The Quiet Station won’t judge you, and it won’t push you to say “I’m over it” right away. Sit on the bench and wait for the next train to pull in slowly, or write the “I’m sorry” you never said on a bedside note, then add one line you would be willing to say to yourself, and fold it away so it stays only on your device. If the guilt has weighed on you for a long time and affects your sleep or daily life, it may help to talk with someone you trust or a professional.
